This Friday Dec 8 at 6:30pm is my book talk at SVA’s MFA IXD studio in Chelsea! Come see/hear the 4D Thinking framework and how to create services that matter (through moments that matter). I’ll have some hardcovers available to purchase at a special price. It’s free but you need to RSVP so that security has your name.
I’m also excited to announce a free virtual FieldTrip with CreativeMornings on Tuesday, January 9th at 9am Eastern: 4D Thinking for Digital Designers & Creators This will be a more interactive, workshoppy version of the talk — come with your idea for an app or service and we’ll take it from 2D to 4D in this session.
✔️ We’ll start with a visual walkthrough of the easy-to-remember 4D Thinking framework.
✔️ Next we’ll outline the audience for our idea: what they want to do, why they want to do it, and who they’re trying to be.
✔️ From there, we’ll sketch the journey they go on, both highs and lows, to find moments that matter most.
✔️ Finally, we’ll brainstorm stand-out value for those key moments.
✔️ To wrap things up, we’ll return to our initial ideas and see how they could be more meaningful and valuable.
This is the type of workshop I deliver to clients for $$$$ but you can show up in your pajamas and enjoy it for free.
And, something fun: yesterday I interviewed the brilliant and creative Kēlín (Carolyn Zhang) for my new podcast/interview series “5 questions on design futures” where I ask smart people how they’re adapting to the present and thinking about the future. We talked about:
how she rethought her design process to incorporate generative AI tools
trends she’s seeing as a consultant/advisor to many startups
how she’s balancing making art with making money
I’ll be sharing the interview in the next newsletter (assuming Descript continues to be awesome for video editing).
Good luck with your week!
Erica
